Dear Parishioner
I am standing as an independent candidate for Senator and hope to have the privilege of representing you for the next four years.
As Minister for External Relations with responsibility for Financial Services – a position I would seek again if elected – I have sought to promote and defend Jersey’s interests in the UK, Europe, and further afield, ensuring that our voice is heard on the international stage. I have built strong relationships with other Governments, and have supported the financial services, agriculture, dairy, digital, and creative industries to grow and find new markets.
In an increasingly uncertain world, it is important that Jersey remains stable, confident, and unified. These times call for calm and serious leadership. I have a record of supporting islanders from all backgrounds and of ensuring that Jersey remains a safe and welcoming community.
As an Island, our prosperity depends significantly on a successful financial services sector – the biggest employer in Jersey and the engine of our economy. That is why I have launched the Financial Services Competitiveness Programme – to ensure we continue to grow our economy, embrace innovation, and improve productivity. This will support thousands of local jobs and help to maintain the revenue which funds the key public services on which we all rely.
Alongside encouraging economic growth, we must exercise restraint in public spending and the size of government. The public sector, which includes so many talented and committed people, should be empowered to drive the efficiencies which are common in the private and voluntary sectors and focus on delivering improved front-line services. As part of that work, Government should intervene less often in Islanders lives.
As the father of two daughters, I recognise the challenges that individuals and families are facing every day, including the cost of living, the cost of housing, and access to health services. These are issues on which I will continue to support islanders and seek to drive improvements.
Jersey has shown throughout history that it can adapt to changing times. I am a passionate advocate for our Island, with proven and long-standing experience as a strong voice for Jersey both locally and globally.
In my manifesto, I set out my objectives for the next four years. Please consider me for one of your senatorial votes on Sunday 7th June.
Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto.
